For you who have heard of the Terra Aventura geocaching application and who are hesitant to get started. And even for you, seasoned badge collectors who think that geocaching has no more secrets for you (don't be so sure)... We share with you our feedback on the Terra Aventura experience in Bidart, for real, without filter, after discovering the course “Sources, whales and sailors”.

We are Juliette & Océane, two student interns at the Tourist Office for a few months.

We discovered geocaching in Bidart and we really wanted to share our adventures with you! ✌️🤩
Good reading !

Head to Bidart!

Contextual data: we are in spring, it is gray but the weather seems to be rising... An ideal time to embark on the course and learn a little more about Bidart.

So we got to the starting point: the old laundry well hidden, close to the village square. It can be reached by three different paths, it's up to you to find at least one!

The rest of the route took us to the village square where we find the famous Labourdin triptych: town hall, church, pediment.

It was only the beginning of the route, but we still took the time to stop for a few seconds in the square... to take advantage of the warm atmosphere that reigns there and observe the Pyrenees chain (we had the lucky to have clear skies, you can trust us, it's not the case every day 🐸☔).

Two riddles solved later, direction the large pediment. A little advice for this step: don't go too fast and open your eyes wide! (And also, go through the top entrance… Even if we are already tempted to take shortcuts) 😜.

Then it was the big descent to primary school. And honestly, when we saw a nice descent like this, we were scared wondering what kind of climb awaited us.

After a stop at school, our feeling was good, but we climbed well, motivated because we were heading towards the Ur Onea chapel, whose beauty we had been praised.

On the way, we were surprised by a charming Basque house, old with a small brown door, which hides on the side. Can you find her?

A few minutes later, here it is, the superb chapel which is gradually revealed on our left. Once in front, we were not disappointed, this white chapel, whose entrance is decorated with foliage, did not leave us indifferent.

On entering the interior, we appreciated the calm of the place and the beauty of the surprisingly colored stained-glass windows. Luckily, it seems that it is open to the public only one month in the year! The rest of the time, you can discover it by flashing the Qr code which is affixed to the side wall, it allows access to a virtual tour of the interior of the practical chapel!👌

A few meters and a break further, we joined the Greenway of Uhabia

We walked along the banks of the Uhabia to the stage which gave us a hard time… We won't say more, just pay close attention to the details! (there, under your feet… near the river) 🧐

Then, we continued our walk to the estuary of the Uhabia beach. There, we went around in circles for a few minutes before finding the answer which was in fact in front of us! 😝

After the effort, the comfort, we took advantage of being on the beach to sit down and eat a few biscuits to recharge our batteries and appreciate the calm in this season.

We then set off again, determined to walk the long but gentle climb of the avenue de la grande plage, which connects the beach to the center of the village, passing in front of magnificent Basque villas.

Çwent up again?

Arrived a little higher, turning left, we arrived on a small grassy path which offered us a very beautiful view of the ocean and which led us to the observation table of the Pyrenees.

From this point, we could guess the fishing port of Guéthary, the bay of Saint Jean de Luz, and even the Spanish coast!

A few meters higher here we are at the famous “point of view” of Bidart, at the level of the Sainte Madeleine chapel. Since this last step, we have been able to find the coordinates of the cache…

…and we found it! The final point of view is worthy of our efforts: it's magnificent!

It's your turn !
