Erretegia Beach

Erretegia beach is located near Bidart Center but away from the city center in a green and natural setting which extends over several hundred meters. This beach is also the starting point of the coastal path: the illustrious Basque Coast hike which extends over 25km to Hendaye.

The Erretegia cirque, classified as a Sensitive Natural Area, was the subject of an innovative project combining a renaturation plan for the site and its adaptation to climate change. The work undertaken in 2019/2020 allows the ocean to breathe with the creation of a larger and more natural interior beach, giving way to the biodiversity, fauna and flora typical of this site.

The project also made it possible to reduce the human footprint of developments carried out in the past while improving reception conditions for the public with the maintenance and renovation of equipment: sanitary facilities up to standard, first aid station, new parking spaces for bicycles. and 2 wheels, creation of trails, seats to contemplate the landscape, picnic areas and open-air restaurant.

It is monitored during the summer period.

Dogs are not allowed during the surveillance period.

To get to this beach, arriving from Biarritz on the RD810 (avenue du Plateau), head towards the center of Bidart. At the exit of the roundabout, take immediately right, before the Corniche de la Falaise. The road goes down towards the parking lot. Finish on foot towards the beach which is approximately 250m away. This beach is also accessible by bike via the Vélodyssée and by bus from the “Erretegia” stop.

The Cirque d'Erretegia, classified as a Sensitive Natural Area, was the subject of an innovative project combining the site's renaturation plan and its adaptation to climate change. The works started in 2019/2020 allow the ocean to breathe with the creation of a larger and more natural interior beach, to give back to the biodiversity, fauna and flora typical of this site.
The beach is supervised in July and August.
It is accessible on foot, about 250m from the car park (paying from June 15 to September 15), by bike via the Vélodyssée and by bus from the “Erretegia” stop.
