Basque Games of Strength

Formerly these games were the result of challenges  between young farmers. Nowadays, the young men of the villages spend the winter training for these shows-cum-competitions in the summer.

The trials? The milk-churn race, lifting a cart,blocks of stone and hay bales, tree cutting and the famous "soka tira" (tug of war).

In Bidart, these summer galas  are organised by the Association Alegera:
